The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor plays a critical role in modern engine management by measuring the amount of air entering the engine. However, there are instances where the MAF sensor can experience reversion, causing inaccurate readings and affecting engine performance. The MAF sensor can and will read air flow in either direction. In this article, we will explore the causes, symptoms, and potential solutions for MAF sensor reversion.

Maf Sensor

The name comes from the C5R corvette. The Corvette build for road racing.

When people think of timing chain failure they often think the cause of the failure is the tensile strength of the chain has been exceeded. When we consider what is actually happening the timing chain is loaded and unloaded many times as the engine rotates. Load is applied when valves are opening and unloaded when the valves are closing. The valve springs resist the opening of the valve and force the closing on the valve. This load is not constant it is a series of shock loads. It is these shock loads that cause chain failure. If you were able to measure the load placed on a timing chain, you wouldn’t see a constant tension load, you would see a series of shock loads.
The information particularly about the C5R chain  for LS but the background knowledge can be applied to many other engines.

What is a high performance service?
Our high performance service is for the driver that likes to explore the limits of their vehicle. The service is perfect for a racecar or performance vehicle. K and N oil filter and Penrite racing oil are included as standard. This along with the comprehensive checklist performed including items like spark plugs, brakes, tyres, drive line fluids and suspension give you a complete overview of the vehicle condition. A critical check that is performed is the tension of all chassis and suspension bolts. This service is a must to keep your car at peak performance.

Is a brake check part of the service?
Yes. We carry out a thorough brake check when we perform a service. We check your vehicle for brake pad wear, brake rotor wear, brake drum/ shoe wear, handbrake wear and adjustment, brake hose and brake fluid condition.

Does high performance driving wear my car out faster?
Yes. The additional load placed on a vehicle causes additional wear. This is the reason we introduced the high performance service.

Is your tuner on staff?
Yes the tuner is a staff member and all of the staff are experienced with high performance cars and their needs. All staff drive and own modified cars.

How long does it take to perform a dyno tune?
A touchup tune is generally same day. A fresh tune, including cold start could be 3 days to complete. Many of the current aftermarket ECUs can adjust every aspect of the tune so naturally, the more parameters adjusted the more time is required. The condition of supporting components also impact time to perform the tune. Dyno tuning is one thing you do not want rushed.

What is a touch up tune?
A touch up tune refers to checking the tune and or minor changes being made to the tune. You will want to check your tune whenever any change has been made that may alter the volumetric efficiently or fuel flow of your engine. Changes to the exhaust, inlet and turbo charger are just some examples of items that may alter the engine VE.

In some cases, the better option may be to retune from scratch. If the tune is from an unknown source or the vehicle was not performing strongly this will be the case.

How long do you need the car for general repairs or maintenance?
A service can be performed in a day as can smaller repairs. We understand being without your car is inconvenient. We always discuss expected time frames at the time of drop off.

How much will it cost?
Before repairs are performed we will provide an estimated cost. When diagnosis and testing is required to identify the cause of an issue you will be updated as testing is carried out. If the scope of a repair changes we will update you.

What is the difference between genuine parts, OEM parts, aftermarket new, remanufactured, and used parts?
All four have a use in performing repairs and should be selected according to availability, vehicle specifics and your personal needs. We evaluate a number of factors before making a part recommendation.

  • A genuine part is produced for or by the manufacturer that produced the vehicle.
  • OEM parts are the same as genuine except they are sourced directly from the company that produced them. The warranty will most likely differ between genuine and OEM.
  • An aftermarket part is manufactured by a source other than the original manufacturer.
  • A remanufactured part was previously used and is reconditioned to meet or exceed original specifications.
  • Used parts are sourced from an auto recycler. They have a limited warranty and finding the exact matching part may be problematic.

Is there a charge to inspect my car?
Yes, our knowledge and experience is used to inspect your vehicle. Often special equipment is required. However when you go ahead with repairs the overall cost is reduced due to partial disassembly already performed.

Do I need an appointment for a repair?
Appointments are always best. If your vehicle did happen to breakdown unexpectedly we will always do everything we can to assist.

Why does the amount of labor vary between different repairs or different vehicles?
The different designs of the vehicles, locating and testing or replacing different parts or even the condition or use of the vehicle all impact the time needed to perform repairs. As an example a modified vehicle with a turbo charged V6 engine will take more time to repair than a 4 cylinder due to limited room and complexity.

Why does my car need maintenance if it's running fine?
The reason behind regular servicing is to monitor wear and tear. Regular maintenance of your vehicle protects your investment, helps to prevent breakdowns, and will reduce the cost of repairs in the future.

What will happen if I do not perform required repairs now?
We will advise you on the priority and ramifications of not performing repairs. We will prioritize the repairs in the order of safety, reliability and comfort.

Do you do Qld safety certificates?
Yes, we are authorized to perform Qld Safety certificates.

Do I still have to pay if my car fails a Safety certificate?
Yes, the cost is for the inspection. If your car does not pass, we can repair the vehicle to enable it to pass or you can make other arrangements. You have 14 days to have the car reinspected free of charge. Please remember all safety certificate inspections are performed to the National Code of Practice.

Do you perform Qld Modification Plates?
Yes we have an Approved person for QLD Modification plates on staff.

Will it void my warranty if you perform my log book service?
No. We can perform a log book service without fear that it will affect your new car warranty. We perform the service as per the manufacturer’s instructions and to a higher quality and a more completive price. We have all the latest computer diagnostic equipment so you know your vehicle is in safe hands.

Do you use genuine parts?
We use a mix of genuine and aftermarket parts when performing service and repairs. We always use what is best suited and most cost-effective. Aftermarket parts are often the same quality at a better price. We use and recommend Penrite oils and other high quality brands like, Wesfil, Cooper, K and M, NGK, Bendix, DBA, KYB, MCA and Haltech.

How often should I get a wheel alignment?
It is considered good practice to have a wheel alignment performed whenever you have tyres replaced. Pot holes, tyres bumping curbs and general wear and tear, all takes its toll on your vehicles wheel alignment. During every service we inspect tyre wear and drivability and will advise if your vehicle will benefit from a wheel alignment.
